BIOBLITZ 2008 is coming to a park near you! Get ready! Bioblitz will take place on September 19th and 20th, 2008 at the Forum Nature Area. Sign in will take place at the Twin Lakes Recreation Area and walks will leave from the shelter at Twin Lakes. Activities, educational displays and ice cream social (closing ceremonies) will take place at the Twin Lakes shelter on September 20th.

Columbia, MO BioBlitz Information

WHAT: A BioBlitz is a 24-hour race against time to identify as many species as possible in a defined area. The first BioBlitz event was sponsored by the National Park Service and the National Biological Service and was held in Kenilworth Park, Washington D.C. in 1996. Since then, BioBlitz events have popped up all over the U.S.

WHEN: September 19th and 20th. A closing ceremonies ice cream social will immediately follow, where participants can share tales of their surveying experience.

WHO: Everyone is encouraged to participate. However, you must REGISTER to participate and attend the ice cream social. An adult must accompany any child under the age of 16. Registration is FREE!

WHERE: Twin Lakes Recreation Area and Forum Nature Area. Participants will meet and sign in at the Twin Lakes Recreation Area. Walks will leave from Twin Lakes and take place in the adjoining Forum Nature Area.

HOW: Experts will guide survey teams in identifying various organisms (e.g. birds, bats, plants, etc.). You don't need to know anything about the organisms prior to your participation. .
